Happy ‘Sol Campbell Day’ to all Arsenal fans out there!

Since we’ve not had much to celebrate recently, let’s enjoy whatever we can, yeah?

On this very day in 2001, Arsenal completed one of the most controversial transfers of all time, signing Campbell from their rivals Spurs.

He made the short walk across north London on a free transfer after his contract at White Hart Lane expired.

The move came out of nowhere and was confirmed in a shock press conference, originally believed to be announcing the signing of Richard Wright from Ipswich.

Campbell went onto become one of Arsenal’s most important players and enjoyed a trophy laden spell.

Spurs fans still think he made the wrong decision though. For some reason.

Campbell is very much the man of the moment after his interesting take on the World Cup lately.

So, what better way to remember that momentous occasion than taking a look back at how bloody angry everyone got on social media, right?

What if Twitter was around back then…

Some of the memes were brilliant too…

Sadly these tweets aren’t 100% legitimate.

They can’t be too far off the reaction of fans at the time though, right?

Never change, Sol.
